4 checks before you sign a window quote in NJ

Check the registration

NJ requires home improvement contractors to register with the Division of Consumer Affairs. Ours: HIC reg.# 13VH11201500. You can cancel a signed contract until midnight of the third business day.

Ask insert or full-frame

Full-frame costs $300–$700 more per window. Make sure the quote says which one.

Built before 1978?

The EPA requires lead-safe certified firms for paid work that disturbs paint in pre-1978 homes.

Plan without the tax credit

The federal 25C credit covers windows installed through Dec 31, 2025 only. Price 2026 work without it.

Window cost questions, answered

How much does window replacement cost in NJ?
A standard vinyl double-hung window costs $650 to $1,250 installed in New Jersey (Modernize, Aug 2026). Basic windows run $650 to $1,100. Mid-range runs $900 to $1,450. High-end runs $1,400 to $3,000.
How much does it cost to replace all windows in a house in NJ?
A home with 10 to 15 windows typically costs $7,000 to $18,000 in New Jersey (Modernize, Aug 2026). Use the calculator above with your own count.
Is labor included in these prices?
Yes. All ranges on this page are installed prices. In NJ, materials are about two-thirds of the price and labor about one-third (Modernize, Aug 2026).
Which window type costs the least to replace?
Awning windows have the lowest U.S. range, $477 to $1,107 per window. Double-hung runs $500 to $1,400 (Modernize, Sep 2026).
Why do bay and bow windows cost so much more?
They are several units joined into one, with a seat or roof. U.S. ranges are $1,700 to $3,700 for bay and $1,810 to $3,859 for bow (Modernize, Sep 2026).
Is triple pane worth it in New Jersey?
It adds $150 to $400 per window in NJ (Modernize, Aug 2026). It helps most on north-facing walls, bedrooms near traffic and rooms that feel drafty. Ask us to price both so you can compare.
What is the difference between insert and full-frame replacement?
An insert fits a new window inside the old frame. Full-frame removes the whole frame down to the opening. Full-frame adds $300 to $700 per window (Cobex, Jul 2026). It is the right call when the old frame is rotted or out of square.
Does the price change across New Jersey?
Yes, by about $125 per window. Jersey City and Hoboken run $775 to $1,300. Camden and Cherry Hill run $650 to $1,100 (Modernize, Aug 2026).
Can I still get the federal tax credit for new windows?
The 25C credit applies to windows placed in service through December 31, 2025. Windows installed in 2026 do not qualify (IRS, reviewed Apr 28, 2026).
Do new windows raise my home's value?
Vinyl replacement windows recover about 65% to 70% of their cost at resale in NJ (Modernize, Aug 2026).
Which frame material is cheapest?
Vinyl, at $450 to $850 per window in U.S. guides. Composite is the most expensive at $1,000 to $1,800 (Modernize, Sep 2026).
Does a second-floor window cost more?
Often yes, by $50 to $200 per window for ladders or staging (Cobex, Jul 2026).
What if the installer finds rot?
Framing repair typically adds $300 to $800 per opening (Cobex, Jul 2026). A good quote says how rot is priced before work starts.
My home was built before 1978. What changes?
Paid work that disturbs paint in pre-1978 housing must be done by an EPA lead-safe certified firm (EPA RRP program). Ask the installer for their certification.
How do I check a contractor's NJ registration?
NJ home improvement contractors must register with the Division of Consumer Affairs. Look the number up on the state site. Factory Direct New Jersey: HIC reg.# 13VH11201500.
Can I cancel a window contract after I sign it in NJ?
Yes. New Jersey law lets you cancel a home improvement contract for any reason until midnight of the third business day after you get your copy. Send the notice in writing. Contracts over $500 must be in writing (N.J.S.A. 56:8-151).
Why is your calculator a range, not one price?
Size, brand line, color, trim and the state of the old frame all change the price. The range shows what NJ homeowners pay for your choices. Your exact price comes in writing after a free measure.
How do you work out the calculator range?
We start from the published NJ price levels (basic $650–$1,100, mid-range $900–$1,450, high-end $1,400–$3,000 per window, Modernize NJ, Aug 2026). For other window types we scale by each type's U.S. price midpoint against double-hung (Modernize, Sep 2026). Then we add the published extras you choose: triple pane +$150–$400, full-frame +$300–$700, upper floor +$50–$200. We round to the nearest $50.
Does the calculator include tilt and turn windows?
No public price guide lists them yet. Send your window count and we will give you a written price.
How long does a window replacement take?
We confirm the timing for your home at the free measure, and put it in writing with the price.
What happens after I send my details?
We call you to book a free in-home measure. We bring samples, measure every opening and send your exact price in writing.
